When to Take Your Engagement Ring Off

When to Take Your Engagement Ring Off

Your engagement ring is made to be worn every day and to last for decades, but even the most beautifully crafted ring isn't designed for everything.  Australian summers can be tough on fine jewellery. From beach days and poolside lounging to workouts and the summer heat, here’s when we recommend slipping off your favourite pieces to keep them looking their best.

Activity

Take it off?

Why

Gym and weights

Yes

Pressure can bend the band and loosen claws

Beach

Yes

Sand scratches, and cold water can make it slip off

Swimming pool

Yes

Chlorine can weaken gold and settings over time

Sleep

Ideally

Claws can snag on hair and bedding

Cleaning and gardening

Yes

Harsh chemicals and dirt dull the stone and metal

Applying sunscreen or lotion

Ideally

Creams leave a film that dulls your stone's sparkle (nothing our Jewellery cleaning pen can't fix).

Where to keep your ring when it's off

A ring set down somewhere temporary is easy to lose, so give it a safe place to land.

  • Keep a ring dish by your bed and bathroom sink, never on the edge of the sink itself.
  • Use a padded case when travelling.
  • Store pieces separately so your stone doesn't scratch other jewellery.

Keep it sparkling for years to come

A quick clean with our jewellery care range brings back the sparkle, or bring it in-store for a deeper clean.
