We first met Ashane in August last year, when he booked an appointment with our expert consultants to design an engagement ring for his girlfriend, Simran. From the very beginning, it was a pleasure working with him throughout the process. After the proposal, we caught up with Ashane and Simran to hear all about the moment he popped the question, and the love story that led them there.
Tell us a little about your love story, how did you meet, and how long have you been together?
We first met at the beginning of 2021 at a mutual friends’ birthday. We shared a common passion for sport, particularly NRL (both being broncos supporters) and would help each other with footy tips on a weekly basis. We developed a solid friendship over the next 3 years and eventually started playing social TRL together. This friendship blossomed into a romantic one at the end of 2023 and the rest is history.
We’d love to hear the details of your proposal. Where did Ashane propose and how did it all unfold?
After a year of him planning, we took a trip to Hamilton Island. On the day of the proposal, we woke up to see a beautiful sunrise before taking a helicopter ride to Whitehaven beach. I was busy writing in the sand (as the child I am) before I saw Ashane walking over with the box. Ashane got down on one knee and asked me the easiest question to answer.
What made the Whitsundays the perfect place to propose?
I’m a big beach girlie and feel the happiest around the ocean. The view was jaw droppingly gorgeous, the water was nice and calm, and the sand was incredibly soft. The area we were at was also private and away from people, which was important to me for a moment which was so intimate and it feel even more special.
How did you decide on the ring design, and what was the process like bringing it to life?
I’d gone into the showroom with a specific shape in mind which I’d had on my Pinterest board for years. To my surprise, I was underwhelmed by my envisioned ring but ended up falling in love with a different yet similar shape diamond. The wonderful Kylie took note of all the features of the ring I loved and when the time was right, helped Ashane craft my ring. I was in awe when I saw the ring in the box. It was better than anything I could have designed myself.
Now that you’re engaged, what are you most looking forward to when it comes to wedding planning?
We’re most looking forward to the fusion of both our cultural weddings and learning about the different rituals we will both have. The outfits, decorations and music will be a big part of both weddings so that will be an exciting aspect to plan for.
