Despite its refined, classic look, the tennis bracelet actually has a surprisingly sporty origin.
The story takes us back to the 1987 U.S. Open, when professional tennis player Chris Evert, a world number one and style icon of her era, was mid-match when her diamond bracelet suddenly unclasped and flew off her wrist.
Play was immediately paused while she searched for it. Cameras captured the moment, and within hours, her elegant diamond line bracelet became known worldwide as the tennis bracelet.
Before then, these pieces were simply called “diamond line bracelets” and were worn mostly for special occasions. But thanks to Chris, they became the perfect symbol of everyday luxury — elegant enough for an evening out, yet effortless enough for the court.
Today, the tennis bracelet remains one of the most timeless pieces in fine jewellery — loved for its versatility, symmetry and understated sparkle.
At Theadore + Co, our tennis collection has remained one of our most popular designs. The perfect piece to wear on your wedding day or paired with a crisp white shirt. Available in lab-grown diamond or moissanite, our classic moissanite tennis bracelets come in 2mm and 3mm variations. Shop now.
